PRECIPICE
Year: 2023-4
Precipice spotlights the importance of preserving ecosystems such as intertidal zones and sharing an understanding of their complex relationships. Martin’s work invites us to take note of these often under-publicised and underappreciated landscapes and deepens our understanding of the natural world and the importance of protecting it. Through Martin’s artistic expression and documentary style story-telling, the exhibition encourages audiences to consider the impact of human activity on the planet’s climate and ecosystems and to seek pathways towards a more regenerative future.
The Precipice project is a multidisciplinary endeavour creatively documenting and responding to integral salt marsh ecological sites. The project began during the All That We Are residency in Tasmania in 2022, which launched it’s “The Saltmarsh Project” under the umbrella of ATWA residency directors. Lucille was drawn to the intertidal marsh and swamp zones and started the work. Precipice takes visual inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg and surrealists who sought a new and liberating visual expression post-World War II. In a post-COVID world, Martin makes sence of the ideas and stories pressing within current times.
